In most cases people think it’s their hair brush that causes static but it’s a combination of elements that create those frustrating flyaways. The real solution is preventing these conditions that create static in the hair.

Brushes generally don’t create static in the hair. Dehydration and dryness both internally and externally are conditions that create static in the hair.  Ever notice static is more noticeable in drier environments both inside and outside? This is the real key.

When purchasing a brush take a closer look at the type of bristles, boar, metal, wood, or nylon bristles if your serious about solving the problem.  The bristles which are in direct contact with the hair are what matters, shape of the brush, round, square or oval does not play a role in static control.

Nylon bristles are static chargers! Poor quality bristles are often cut to a sharp edge which can scratch you scalp and cause breakage and split ends.

Metal bristles are never a good choice for blow-drying or brushing.  There is no grip or tension when blow-drying and the bristles can get very hot from the heat of the dryer.

The best choice for bristles are natural. Boar bristles both black and white have many characteristics that help control static. They are able to hold natural oils and moisture reducing negative charges that cause static. Like your hair when healthy can help in controlling static. Damaged hair exhibits more negative charges more potential for static.

Ever notice that hair always looks great when it's just shampooed and conditioned but dehydrates during the day and then becomes limp and static charged.

Bottom line, when purchasing a new hair brush consider natural bristles, if you need a firmer bristles in the brush look for those with a nylon mix as well.
